SOUTH’S

STORY

South is 20 years old and is an extraordinary artist!

He was diagnosed with autism at age 3, and has turned his passion for creating clay sculptures into a booming business!

how south’s passion began…

One night, we were trying to enjoy dinner in an Italian restaurant, but he was having a meltdown. A waitress asked us if he would like some pizza dough, and as soon as the dough hit his hands, South made the "M" arch and started singing "Buh Buh Buh" from the McDonald’s jingle. We instantly knew he was distressed, because he wanted to go to McDonald's!

My husband and I raced to the nearest Target and bought the first of many packs of Playdoh. He worked it all the way home — making shapes that look like our dogs, and a tiny can of a sprite. It was the first time we were able to communicate with him and understand what he wanted.
He’s been creating clay sculptures ever since!

As he’s creating, he doesn’t look at his hands at all—only at a photo. Plus, he doesn’t use any tools are his hands and fingernails.

No one can quite understand his accuracy in the way he is able to mix the colors. His detail is truly unmatched.

At the end of the day, South’s dream is simply to live here with us and create sculptures that make people happy.

We are so proud of him and are truly amazed by the beauty of his sculptures and the joy he brings to everyone he encounters.
